Introduction to a Plant Lover
Hi everyone! My name is Natalia Crespo and I am a senior majoring in Psychology/Pre Occupational Therapy and minoring in Spanish. I am originally from El Paso, Texas but have lived in Oklahoma for over 8 years. I am majoring in psychology because I love learning about developmental disorders as well as people's mental processes. Occupational Therapists work a lot with people who have developmental disabilities and help them improve the skills needed for living every day life. I have been shadowing Occupational Therapists and I fell in love with what they do. I am so excited to go to OT school after I graduate, and I am currently in the process of applying to different schools. All of my family speak Spanish, especially my Dad's side of the family. I grew up speaking minimal Spanish, but I really wanted to study the language on a deeper level so I could communicate in Spanish more effectively, so that is why I am minoring in it.
Some of my favorite things include: Thrifting, taking care of my plants, DIYing, doing my nails and makeup, binge watching movie series (just recently watched Twilight and it was amazing), trying new foods, being outdoors, taking photos, animals, going to TJ Maxx, listening to music, and watching tik toks. I was a huuuge one direction fan back in the day, and will always remember the two concerts I went to! My favorite foods would have to be home cooked Mexican food and sushi. I love all food, there isn't really anything I won't try. Meat sometimes grosses me out though, lol. My favorite type of music is indie! Some of my favorite artists are Wallows, Clairo, Khalid, Harry Styles, Beach Bunny, the Greeting Committee, and Worship Bands! My favorite plant is Pothos, they are so easy to take care of and are so beautiful when they grow long stems and hang. My favorite animals are giraffes! I have one dog named Willow, and she is a black and tan coonhound.
Along with my hobbies, I try my best to be involved as I can on campus! I have been a resident Advisor for 3 years at Headington College and I love it! I enjoy helping my residents and giving them advice whether it be for college or their personal lives! I have met some of my best friends from being an RA at Headington and I am so grateful to live there. This year I also became a sister of Theta Nu Xi, the first multicultural sorority established at OU. I have met some amazing people who I can always rely on and who help me to become a better person. I am also part of the Community Engagement Committee for Latinos Without Borders, an organization who focuses on raising high-school Latinos awareness of the importance of education!

Hi Natalia!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I think it's awesome that you are minoring in Spanish! I considered it at one time because I think it would be cool to minor in something useful like that but I just couldn't fit it into my schedule.
I've also heard of most of the artists that you are interested in and I would say my favorite on your list would probably be Clairo! I love her song "I Wouldn't Ask You" because it takes me to such a weird place anytime I listen to it. I love the choice that she made to have the choir kids sing in the background. It's a very interesting choice in my opinion and I love when artists find ways to mix things up. Are there any other songs of hers that you could recommend for me?
I love the photo you included on this post. I have a Pothos too, but I actually find it to be a very hard plant to take care of. My roommate loves them but I think I'm more of a cactus or succulent girl myself. I hope you have a great day today! Bye!
Hi Natalia! That’s really neat that you’ve found a career path that you have a passion for. I bet that will be rewarding for you in so many ways. Also, minoring in Spanish is really smart. It will help you so much being bilingual. That will allow you to communicate with more clients. That’s awesome that you have a coonhound. My sister Mattie has a coonhound named Breezy. She’s a great dog. It was very nice to meet you, and I hope you have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia! That is awesome that you found your direction in occupational therapy. I bet you will do a great job! That's pretty crazy that you went to see One Direction! I bet they were all the hype back then so those concerts were probably pretty nuts. That would be fun to look back on! What are some of your favorite home-cooked Mexican foods? My girlfriend's mom makes the best Salvadorian food! I hope you have a great semester :)
ReplyDeleteYay for occupational therapists, Natalia! I am so glad you found your way to that professional path, and how great that you will be able to work with clients in both English and also in Spanish. Maybe you will want to do a Spanish-language inspired project for this class! There are so many great folktale collections in Spanish online, so if you are interested in finding resources like that, just let me know. I can't speak Spanish, but I can read it more or less, and I get excited when I find folktales in Spanish that I can read and understand on my own. And yay for giraffes! There are so many special animals like that who live just in Africa: that would also make such a cool Storybook, folktales of the animals of Africa, with giraffes and cheetahs and rhinos and so on! Anyway, I hope you will have fun with the class, and maybe you can find some stories that you will be able to share with your clients in the future: stories can be a powerful part of all types of therapy, including OT! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia, I think pothos are really beautiful when they grow out their stems super long too. I've never had one, but I really want one. I guess I'm too sacred I might kill it. Every time I bought a succulent it would die within a couple of weeks :( So now I just have a bunch of fake plants around my house. I love binge watching movie series. I've binge watched the Twilight series countless times. It's so good. I also love binge watching Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribeans, and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit. Also, I am a senior too and also in the process of applying to different PA schools. It's nerve-wracking because you're essentially applying to the next stage of your life and you're not sure if you'll get in. I try to think positive about it though. Life isn't a race. If I don't get in the first time I can try again next time.
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia!
ReplyDeleteI really love mexican food and sushi too! I think its awesome that you try to be involved on campus because it can make a big difference in your college experience. I also have a dog named willow so that was funny to see that you do as well. I think its great how passionate you are about your major.
Hi Natalia, I recently started getting into the plant scene. It really just took me so long haha! Over quarantine I propagated a small plant with only 3 leaves and now she has around 10 and it's only been a couple months. It strangely fulfilling I never had a green thumb but I think I'm becoming a plant mom..? Let me know if you have any tips or suggestions for other easy plants to keep alive!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia! I think it's so awesome that you have spent your time here getting so involved. I think it's awesome that you have met so many great people with all of the things you're involved in, and I'm sure those friendships will last a lifetime! My RA my freshman year was so awesome, I think it's great that you spend your time being a mentor for these younger college students starting life on their own.
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I love your blog! It's so cute and aesthetically pleasing! I loved reading about your interests, It's obvious your a super passionate person and have a love for so many awesome things! I love plants too but I'm definitely more of a succulent person because they don't required as much attention! I'm excited to read your stories semester!
Hey Natalia! I think it's awesome that you are interested in becoming an occupational therapist. That was a field I seriously considered for a very long time, it seems very rewarding. That must be nice having a family that speaks Spanish because I'm sure you can learn a lot from them. I really enjoy eating sushi and Mexican food as well. I'm excited to get to know you more through your writing.
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia!
ReplyDeleteI am also a pre-occupational therapy major that has looked a little into getting a psychology minor, pretty crazy coincidence. What are some of your favorite places to thrift? Have you ever looked into places in the city? My sister is a big thrifter and I am trying to get more into it, but I get a bit overwhelmed lol. I also LOVE all of the artist you like, they are so good and their music just makes puts me in such a great mood, no matter the song.
Hi Natalia,
ReplyDeleteI think it is super cool you are interested in occupational therapist. I love Mexican food as well, being that I am from California. I hope you have a great semester and look forward to reading some of your work.
Hi, Natalia! It's awesome to see how involved you are on campus and in your community. It's always great to hear/read about the wonderful people who help make campus life and life in general easier and better for everyone around them. I have to agree that the pothos is a beautiful plant. Thanks for introducing me to it! Hope you have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia! Wow! You blew me away with the amount of things you do for your community and campus. OU is lucky to have you. I also love plants and Twilight, so you are in good company on that front. Also, literally all the bands/artists you listed are some of my favorites, so you have good taste. I hope you're having a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalia! Wow you are definitely involved in OU's campus life! I think that's great! I also love dogs and want to adopt one hopefully someday soon! Does your dog live with you here at OU? If so, how does that work with being an RA? I think it's great that you love helping incoming college students and I wish I had the patience to do that myself! I hope your semester has been good so far and ends well!
ReplyDeleteHey Natalia,
ReplyDeleteI am always so excited to hear when people have found a career that they are passionate about, I love to see people get excited to pursue their dreams. I love that you really like plants, I have some family members who are very into gardening and keeping plants, but I personally know little about them and have a hard time keeping them alive. I think it is awesome that you are so involved in campus life, I transferred to OU my junior year, so I don't spend much time on campus besides for classes.
Hi Natalia,
ReplyDeleteI love that you put so much time and effort into helping those around you. This is such a rare and amazing quality to have! I also love plants but I am the worst at keeping them alive! I currently am down to just one palm plant in my living room (Charlie) but he is still doing alright! I think that might just be a hard plant to kill. Anyway, I really enjoyed learning a little about you and I hope the rest of the semester goes smoothly for you!
Hey Natalia,
ReplyDeleteI am also a Spanish minor. I have grown to love the language. I think being able to speak multiple languages is really cool as well as helpful when trying to find a job! I am also a big fan of Harry Styles and the Wallows. Harry's most recent album came out a year ago and I still listen to it on repeat. Glad you found Twilight good! Had you never seen it before. I sometimes get into mood where I'll just bing the entire series. Hope the rest of your semester goes well and good luck on your finals!
Hi Natalia. Wow, I loved your post. You did a great job. That is so cool that you are a Spanish minor. I wish I was better at spanish. Knowing another language is a great skill to have. I also love Harry Styles. I love that you love plants so much. You must be so busy with your major and minor. It is so nice to get to know you better and learn about your hobbies and what you are passionate about. Great job and I hope you have a great rest of your semester.
